Flocks, egg sets, and Lots

A Lot is PoultryDesk's common label for one broiler flock, one layer flock, or one hatchery egg set. It is tracked from placement to closeout. Every daily entry, cost, treatment, and sale is tied to the right flock or egg set through its Lot.

The lots index

Open Lots to see every flock and egg set in one place. Each Lot shows whether it is broiler, layer, or hatchery, the site and house it belongs to, its current count, and its status. This is the fastest way to find a flock or egg set when you are not sure which section it belongs to.

The Overview shows Feed (kg/d) for each active Lot with a feeding program. This is today's calculated requirement in kilograms per day, based on the Lot's current bird count and active feeding-program phase. It is not the cumulative feed already recorded.

On the Lots list, Mortality shows the count with its percentage of placed birds, and Feed (kg) shows the calculated total kilograms per day. Use the caret beside the Lot name to expand the active phase, feed in grams per bird per day, the same total in kilograms per day, and cumulative feed recorded. Tap the Lot name or the rest of its row to open the detail page. Older Lots without a feeding-program snapshot calculate grams per bird per day from cumulative feed and bird-days; their active phase remains unavailable.

On a phone, Filter and + New lot stay visible above the list. Open More lot actions for the feed, mortality, and egg rounds or to download the filtered CSV. Laptop screens keep those actions directly in the toolbar.

To work with one type, open Broilers, Layers, or Hatchery directly. Each section shows only its own flocks or egg sets.

Set up breed profiles

Open Lots > Setup > Breed profiles to manage the breeds and strains used by placements and feed templates. Breed profiles live with Lot setup rather than Planning because they describe the birds, not a schedule. Existing links from the old Planning location redirect to the new section.

Lot statuses

A lot moves through a small set of statuses:

• Planned - created ahead of time but not yet stocked with birds or eggs.
• Active - birds or eggs are in place and daily figures are being recorded.
• Closed - the lot has been closed out; all birds are harvested, transferred, or accounted for, and the final numbers are locked in.

You can only close a lot once its birds are fully accounted for. See the vertical guides for exactly what each closeout checks.

Opening a lot

Tap a Lot name or row on the Lots list to open its detail view. The Lots back control returns to the list. From the detail view you get:

• The lot's Overview summary facts - current count and mortality count with its percentage of placed birds - followed by non-duplicated performance figures such as feed, weight and FCR for broilers, hen-day production for layers, or hatch rate for hatchery.
• The daily actions for that flock or egg set - record mortality, feed, eggs, weights, harvest, and so on.
• The full timeline of every entry ever made against the lot, in the audit trail.

Feed and water rounds

Open Lots > Feed and water round to record feed used and water intake for all active broiler and layer Lots on one date. Each Lot appears once with feed and water columns. The two values save as separate records, so one can queue or fail without hiding or resubmitting the other result.

When a Lot has a feeding program, its phase can suggest feed and an optional water target. Review the values before saving. PoultryDesk does not guess water intake when the feeding program has no litres-per-bird target.

You can switch automatic records on or off for each scheduled Lot. To fill gaps, open Generate missing records, choose Feed, Water, or both under Records to generate, then choose the Date range and select Generate records. The capture table shows only the selected record columns. Generation is always missing-only: an existing manual or generated feed entry suppresses feed for that date, while water is checked separately. The results table lists generated, duplicate, skipped, and failed dates. Review skipped targets and failed dates before leaving the round.

To correct an inaccurate value, use the normal correction workflow. Do not run generation again expecting it to replace an existing record; duplicate prevention deliberately preserves the current audit trail.
